Here are the Swedish electric vehicles that want to turn up and down on the automotive industry. And its design allowed Elon Musk to appear to be prudent.
a few years ago saw Lewis Horne a documentary on Tesla. In the told a pair of Elon Musks engineers that they "could just as well have built a spaceship", but that market forces forced something that looked and behaved like a normal car.
“You could hear in their voices that they, in fact, wanted to do something different, something better,” says Lewis Horne.
But what happens if you take away the internal combustion engine, hijacks all the mechanics between the steering and the wheels, ignoring things like acceleration, top speed and range? What happens if you do the small in size, but more spacious than a sport utility vehicle inside? What happens if you bet more on the computer than on the electric motor?
the Uniti is the answer. The electric car has four wheels but resembles almost more of a combination of the cockpit in a fighter, and a smart phone.
” this didn’t start with any passion for cars. Our team consists not bilmänniskor. However, there is a deep love for technology, ” says Lewis Horne who is leading the project from Lund university.
the Uniti lacks a steering wheel and foot pedals. In its place sits two levers holding in each hand. They are used to accelerate, brake and turn. Haptic feedback in the controls, vibrations, and provides information to the driver. Force feedback provides the switches in a different resistance at different speeds. To blink, or turn on the light, you pull your thumbs over the spakarnas top in the same way as on a smartphone.
” We were at a trade show recently, where visitors got to test in virtual reality. We received the visit of the EU commissioner for energy Günther Oettinger. Old German dude. He drove around without any problems. Then came a five year old and ran, no problems there, either, ” says Horne.

the Uniti has no large front panel and no buttons, but a tryckskärm between the levers. The entire front window is a display with augmented reality features. It means that the driver can get a layer of virtual information over the real world. Sensors can track the driver’s head and hands for interaction with the display.
Horne, however, has the display with equal importance when the vehicle is standing still. By making the rest of the squares are dark, the car can turn into a mobile bio systems.
– Imagine that you have an air filter and a climate control system, therefore, clean and fresh air in the car. Imagine that you work in Beijing and have a job you hate. Then maybe you can relax in the car for a while. Stepping into a rainforest or play a computer game.
If motorentusiasten scoff at this, it may be that the Uniti in the first place is not addressed to the target audience. They think of eco-conscious young urban population with high income. They think of the future: "millennials" who have grown up in a new world.
– The one who puts himself in his mother’s car today, a station wagon from one of today’s major brands, see all the plastic and all the buttons at the same time as they have their smartphone. It recognizes that "this car does not belong to my generation," says Horne.
When the owner is not sitting in his Uniti are three possibilities. One is to rent out the car. Another is to remotely control it via an app on your phone. The screen will give a first-person view from the driver’s seat so that you can steer the car to the desired destination. The third possibility is to let the Unitis built-in robot driving the car yourself, for example, to park the car.
You can call Uniti a city car, but Lewis Horne and his team did not choose a smaller battery (and thus shorter range) to the car only to be delivered in the inner cities. But statistics show that the vast majority do not use the car for longer distances than the max of 15 miles a day.
– the Tesla has a battery of 90 kilowatt-hours so they can’t really do induction. But if I do not run more than 150 miles in one day and have a induktionsplatta installed at home I don’t need to think about energy more.
in Regard to energy and the environment are, unsurprisingly perhaps, the two crucial parameters when the Uniti is designed.
” We want people to start questioning their own travel habits. There are some crazy data in many of countries.
Horne mentions England, where a report from 2012 stated that 13 000 people each year died prematurely from air pollution. More than half of the fatalities was said to be due to emissions from cars and trucks. Fewer than 2 000 people died in traffic accidents.
– But there is no one who weeps over 13 000 people die of emissions. Probably because it would not be a good deal for some companies.
