Apple has confirmed that the company sold over 10 million of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus during the first sales weekend. It’s a record and surpasses the 9 million sold by the iPhone 5S and 5C last fall, it is clear from a statement.

“sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we could not be happier,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook .

At the end of this week expected Apple launch sales of its new handsets in a further 20 countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and Austria.
