Many people have their phones and computers set to automatically connect to wifi. It’s nice not having to turn it on every time you come home, but that is exactly what fraudsters want.
– This may mean that the phone will connect to a public network when you are out, without you notice it. Now there are so many guest networks to choose from and then it’s too easy to connect to one as an impostor has set up, says Lotta Mauritzon on Theft Prevention Association.
By creating a copy of the secure network and naming it an almost identical name can scammer easy to fool yourself into the trap to connect to it. They can then everything you do, including when you enter your banking passwords or communicate with your loved ones.
– If, for example, lobbies, train stations and fairs, there are networks that are open to use. Where is it easy to make a fake network that includes hotel or exhibition name to trick the user that it is safe, she said.
