Now eventually dies Betamax – New Technology

Betamax video format launched by Sony in 1975 has been declared dead many times. For example, in 2002 when the last player manufactured. But the technology has survived and backers of the system has been able to buy new tapes.

But now Sony announced in a press release that the manufacture of cartridges expires in March 2016.

In the late 1970s Betamax one of the combatants in the so-called video war where VHS was the opponent. The video format was launched by JVC one year after the Betamax appeared and went iur winning the battle for the video format would dominate the market.

The advantages Betamax was that the picture quality was considered slightly better while the cassettes were somewhat smaller in size but had a shorter running time.

One reason for the end of the fight was that Sony is far refused to license the technology to other manufacturers. This led to major electronics manufacturers were referred to VHS. 1984, 40 companies decided to VHS while only twelve backed Betamax.
