Microsoft pulls down the mobile production – hitting hard against Finland – IDG.se

Yesterday Microsoft announced that 7,800 posts will disappear from the company worldwide which is seven per cent of the entire workforce. And it’s phone production concerned.

Finland has today three product development units. Microsoft will probably close down one of them, the operations in Salo. 2300 employees may be allowed to go from the company, according to YLE.

 The cuts on the hardware side, Microsoft shows that they are increasingly switching focus from phone manufacturing to software and cloud services. They also write down the value of mobile phone units by 7.6 billion dollars. Nokia did not save for Microsoft’s mobile phones. Now put the company down parts of its operations and thousands of employees lose their jobs.

 

 This is the second time that Microsoft cut back on staff since Satya Nadella took over as president in February last year. Almost exactly a year ago, which was 18 000 employees of denunciation, writes Reuters.

 Since he took office, he lifted up Microsoft’s cloud services and enterprise software. But investors are not convinced that the transition to cloud services would compensate for declining sales of Windows, Office and the bleeding phone manufacturing.
