30,000 secret records lost – Göteborgs-Posten

Thirteen computers with patient records was stolen from the IT storage in Mölndal Sunday.

Sunday night broke thieves in the Västra Götaland’s IT storage on Bergfotsgatan in Mölndal.

With him was given the thirteen computers filled with elderly patient records to be archived, but are stored on the stolen computers.

During today after increases have come to the conclusion that 30,000 older records from prenatal care in the stolen computers. The records spanning the years 1995 to 2005.

The fact that the computers were stored openly in the IT custody Association premises are inconsistent with local safety procedures.

– We are deeply saddened by not following our security which has led to patient information is now in operation. Many unfortunate circumstances have made that this could happen. We will make sure that this does not happen again, says Göran Ejbyfeldt IT Director in a press statement.

Since the premises were alerted security guards came quickly on the scene. But too late. Police are now searching for the thieves and the stolen computers.

Västra Götaland will not go out and inform the patients that could be affected by the theft.

– As the records are so old we will not do it, but there’s a phone number to which the public can call for information, says Ulrika Jisland, press officer VG region.

– No need to worry that the information should have disappeared completely, the original records remains, she says.

The public can call if patient records at 010-43 50 200.
