Mainline trains and commuter services in Stockholm continues to face major problems after the night cable fire at the station Stockholm South, which caused a strong signal errors.
The cause of the fire was, according to Stefan Björkqvist, director of the National Operational traffic management for the Swedish Transport Administration, a track grinding machine that passed Stockholm South during the night sent out sparks.
– sparking led to the fire started in a number of cables, he says. According to Stefan Björkqvist it is very rare that similar Sanders cause signal errors.
– I have never heard of it so far during my time here he says.
This morning could no trains pass at Stockholm South, but many passengers who traveled from the south were bussed from Fairfield station to subway station Telefonplan.
During the day, however, two of the four tracks opened – but accessibility is limited due to the broken signaling.
– mainline trains can pass Stockholm South but they go with the stop, ie they must pause while waiting for new transport orders, says Stefan Björkqvist.
No commuter However, at the present time getting past Stockholm South, but they may stop and turn at Fairfield respectively at Stockholm Central .
This evening at 20 o’clock, additional work done by the Swedish Transport Administration hopes will increase traffic flow on the two tracks that are open to full speed again.
The other two tracks, which currently can not take any traffic, hoping Transport Administration can be opened for traffic again on Wednesday morning.
– There will be delays all day today, and tomorrow morning there will be some minor delays, believes Stefan Björkqvist.
A track work at Barkarby has also been delayed and some of commuter trains between Balsta – Västerhaninge now forced to turn in Spanga respectively in Norrkoping .
