John Elvesjo and Marten Skogö at Tobii is nominated to take home the EU’s inventor price.
The prestigious Innovation – and the inventor’s European Inventor Award is presented annually by the EPO.
John Elvesjo and Marten Skogö is for their eyes scanning technology, eye tracking, which is done with the help of cameras, sensors and algorithms, technology has among other things led to the success of the broadcaster Tobii, with 570 employees and companies in Europe, USA and Asia.
The technique consists of projectors to infrared light, cameras that capture light reflected from the eye and beräkningsalgortmer to determine the gaze position.
This information may used apps to help disabled individuals, investigate buying habits and test the security of the driver’s environment in cars.
Epo manager Benoît Battistelli says that the eyes scanning technology provides unprecedented opportunities for interaction between man and machine, both business and pleasure.
– Today is sufficient an eye movement to trigger and control the computer controlled processes, he said.
John Elvesjo consider innovation and development as the core of both Tobii and the nominees inventors deed.
– About ten years, we will see eye tracking as a natural function of each cell phone, car, computer and TV, he said.
European Award into five categories: industry, small and medium-sized enterprises, research, life works, and non-European countries.
Inventors duo is one of three nominees for the award in the category of small and medium-sized businesses.
The final award winners announced on 11 June.
