Minecraft in Hololens impress. Promises Microsoft more than they can hold? – IDG.se

Someone who will Remember Milo? The digital boy who used to launch Kinect (or Project Natal as it was then called) at the game fair E3 2009?

When I through Youtube this morning saw Mojangs “Director of fun “Lydia Winters show how Microsoft Hololens can be used to play Minecraft directly on the living room table before a wildly applauding the E3 crowd it was difficult not to draw parallels to the now infamous presentation from 2009.

Just like when Microsoft wants to use one of their games studios (where Lionhead, now Mojang) to show up and and new hardware on stiff rope. And just as then it was Microsoft’s Alex Kipman who stood behind the technology and much of the hype.

In the film you can watch above shows a woman conversing seemingly natural and relaxed with the digital boy Milo. In the end, we hear legendary game developer Peter Molyneux promise that everything we see is real.

But we are waiting still to meet Milo.

Now, Lydia Winters how amazing it is to play Minecraft using Hololens, and it looks really amazing on the pictures shown. But if not, Microsoft made major changes in how Hololens works then I tried the glasses for just over a month ago so deceiving image that we like watching the presentation will see:

The problem with Hololens, which in many ways is a great invention, is that the field of view in the versions that Microsoft shows are very narrow. In the distance the person with the glasses in the movie are from the digital 3D model, he probably did not see the whole model at the same time.

The experience is in the instead a bit like watching a Minecraft Model through a water binoculars. This in itself might be an interesting experience, but it is not as amazing as the Microsoft wants us to believe that the company can deliver today.

Now it became Kinect , finally, a success for Microsoft, despite Kipmans and Molyneux of hype spirit, and it might even Hololens can become. If nothing else, it is certainly Microsoft’s developers motivated to now deliver what the company already promised millions of Minecraft fans.
