Västerås city and property owners in the City has a joint company called CitySamverkan in Vasteras. The company has set up a system designed to measure the main flows in the city center. But the system is not approved in its present form.
It assesses the Data Inspection Board in a review of the IT system.
The latter is called IOPS (Indoor Outdoor Positioning System) and collects data on mobiles, toads and laptop computers that have WiFi turned on and moves in the city center.
According to the inspection gather it into units known as MAC addresses, which constitute personal data as defined by law.
– The data collected may under certain circumstances be used to identify how a person moves in a public place in Västerås city center, at least for a period of for a week, says Martin Brinnen, lawyer for the authority.
According to the company Bumbee Labs who developed the main stream system has 80-85 percent of Västerås wifi enabled.
Vasteras CitySamverkan must now shut down the system – or to ensure that individuals can not be identified, according to a decision from the Data Inspection Board.
