Today’s Medicine has previously reported that the Karolinska Institute are investigating a famous doctor for suspected misconduct in research. An external audit has found the doctor guilty and university final statement on the matter is expected in days.
Now, the Swedish Research Council decided to immediately stop the payment of contributions to the publicized research project led by the same doctor.
– The Swedish Research Council wants to make clear that the research grant is not paid to the researcher who is unethical. We look very seriously at what has happened. The crucial confidence in the research is that the scientists who operate with public funds do not cheat in their research or acts unethically, says Research Council Director General Sven Stafström in a press release.
A prosecutor has initiated an investigation regarding two cases of aggravated manslaughter and a case of grievous bodily harm linked to patients who have received treatment of physician. The doctor is not served on suspicion of crimes.
According Läkartidningen knew the managers at the Karolinska University Hospital in the early stages of the doctor’s treatment did not work and stopped it. But neither the Karolinska Institute or the magazines wrote about the method as a success to be, according to the newspaper, have been informed.
