It turned that in an average home normally houses around 2000 various fungi and 7000 bacteria. Of the latter were staphylococci and streptococci most common, found on our skin. But there was also bacteria from the genus Faecalibacterium, normally found in our feces.
Any pet also affected the mix, so much so that the scientists – only by analyzing the bacteria – could say if a household had a cat or a dog.
Even sex of the accommodation reflected in the dirt.
– Certain bacteria are more prevalent in women bodies than the men, and we could see how it affected the bacteria we found in the dust, says Professor Noha Fierer, one of the researchers behind the study, told BBC News.
The study is published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
