There are more and more plastic in the oceans, and it damages both the environment and humans. Now Swedish researchers examine how the smallest parts from plastic ends up where and where they come from.

Scientists believe that it is bad for both the environment and our people that there is so much plastic in Seas. And that is why they should do research on this. It says Martin Hassellöv who will lead the new research.
– We do it partly for the environment, but it also applies to human health, because we have in us of micro plastics when we eat fish, he says.
Do research on micro plastic
What scientists do then, is to find out how micro plastic end up in the sea. Micro Plastics are small pieces of plastic that among other things found in various skin creams. When we wash ourselves so rinse these creams with the sewage into the sea, and then wind up the small plastic particles there.
Martin Hassellöv says that no one knows what happens when the micro plastic end up in the sea.
– What happens to the micro-plastic is completely unknown, and that is what we intend to study in this project, says Martin Hassellöv.
Must be better at taking care of the plastic
Martin Hasselöv hope that the research could lead to us becoming better at taking care of plastic waste and fewer products should contain micro plastic.
It is not possible to clean the sea when the plastic already landed there.
– When micro plastic well ended up in the water so it is completely impossible to clean it up. The only way to reduce the scale of the problem is to reduce the supply, says Martin Hassellöv who works at the University of Gothenburg.
