Games with SecuROM? Not on Windows 10 – Eurogamer.se

There are plenty of DRM (Digital Rights Management), including computer games. For example Denuvo used in the Dragon Age: Inquisition , Batman: Arkham Knight and Fifa 15 . Clients like Steam and Uplay fulfills the same function. The difference is that certain types of DRM are more aggressive than others. Steam may be perceived as a problem-solution among many, while SecuROM and SafeDisc is notorious as dysfunctional ones.

Nope

There are numerous horror stories about SecuROM. Mass Effect using SecuROM 7.x that required a re-activation every ten days. Spore could only be activated in three computers simultaneously. Bioshock required an activation online with only two allowed. Customers needed more had to call support.

Sad news for the SecuROM and SafeDisc, but Microsoft has had enough. SecuROM and SafeDisc will not work on Windows 10. Microsoft Boris Schneider-Johne talked about this at Gamescom in a video Rock Paper Shotgun translated.

“[...] And then there are old games on CD-Rom thathave DRM. This DRM stuff is overpriced deeply embedded in your system, and that’s where the Windows 10 says” sorry, we can not allow That, Because That Would be a possible loophole for computer viruses. “

So this is about the safety and potential loophole that Microsoft can not permit. This only underscores the way companies are willing To go to protect software. Let us not forget Sony’s blunder 10 years ago! But perhaps we are approaching a future in which the publisher eventually relaxes with DRM in the PC platform’s strong growth in recent years.
