Musical improvisation seen – Swedish Radio

How does collective improvisation individual creativity? That is the question in a research project at the Royal College of Music, that the Council is now granted 4.3 million SEK.

The generic name of the project is “Music in disarray” and directed the pianist and composer Klas Nevrin.

The project is based on a number of workshops since 2012 has been run with the support of the Music Works and the National Association Swedish jazz, and is now integrated with international cooperation in The Revoid Ensemble. Which included alongside Klas Nevrin also musicians Anna Lindal, Cat Hernandez and Ricard East Stam who will also participate as researchers. The project will begin with a concert by The Revoid Ensemble in January 2016 at the Theatre Lederman in Stockholm.

– improvisational events can tell a lot about our expectations and values, whether it be music, education or any other context says Klas Nevrin in a press release continues:

– We want to make visible more playful aspects of artistic creation. To put too much emphasis on monitoring, planning and individuality risks perpetuating beliefs and hinder us in our development. To improvise collectively, however, involves inviting the unexpected, what happens when we do get resistance, or backed into something else, affirming the complex order arises out of disorder or “at the brink of chaos.”
