The Xbox One will be fully integrated with Windows 10 for the year. It told Microsoft in a presentation recently.
Windows 10 will come to Xbox One has been known since January, but it has been unclear how intertwined they will be. Then said Xbox boss Phil Spencer that “People will not run Excel on the Xbox, but Microsoft makes it easier to port experiences from PC to Xbox, in cases where it seems reasonable.”
Now, you say that the Xbox One should be regarded as a ‘Windows platform’, just like desktops and phones: “Xbox running Windows today, so every time we sell a xbox so we are creating in effect a Windows platform that people will hopefully enjoy.”
How it will all hang together remains to be seen, but hopefully for the integration brings to the pc thriving mod-scene will now also be fully accessible for console gamers (Bethesda, for example, promised support for the PC mods to Fallout 4 on XB1). This would in turn help Microsoft reduce the sales gap between Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Besides that, playing between platforms easier – a number of games that support this have already been announced.
