But the analysis shows that the people at the Sima de los Huesos was very closely related to Neanderthals, so close that they can be considered as proto-Neanderthal.
However, they had no nearer kinship neither with denis above are – the Neanderthal cousins in Central Asia – or on ourselves.
This means that split between denis above limits and the Neanderthals must have taken place earlier than 400,000 years ago, and the split between our own line and Neanderthals / denis above limits even further back in time, probably for about 650 000 years ago.
This is approximately 250 000 years earlier than previously believed. We may have been out on a lonely walk very long.
