End of ads on the mobile?
A European mobile operator, says the Financial Times that they have already installed a blocking software in their data centers, and planning to turn it on during the year.

At the software prevents most ads from loading web pages and apps, but allows flow advertisements of the type found on eg Twitter and Facebook.

The technology was developed by an Israeli start-up called Shine. The company says the Financial Times that they believe that the service will have a major impact – and big consequences.

– Tens of millions of mobile users across the Earth will choose to block advertising before the year is out. If it grows, it can have a devastating impact on the industry behind the marketing online, says Shines Marketing Roi Carthy.

The aim of blocking advertising is as a source to access Google. Mobile operators want to simply have a portion of ad revenue – otherwise shut the company out. But it is unclear whether such a targeted blockade is at all legal.

– People pay for mobile internet so they can access applications, streaming services, webmail and other services that they love, and many of them financed by ads, Google responds to think that mobile operators’ plans are unreasonable.

The mobile advertising market has grown rapidly, and this year is expected to marketers spend close to 69 billion dollars – a threefold increase over two years.
