Anyone can get your iPhone to crash.
With a simple text message.
“We are aware of a problem,” says a spokesperson for Apple.
A bug in Apple’s iOS operating system has been discovered by multiple users on Reddit, writes The Guardian. The problem comes then Apple’s phones, e-readers and music player iPod Touch.
It is enough to send an SMS with a certain type of non-Latin text to have an iPhone to crash. As soon as the text message is received, the phone switches off.
“We are aware of a problem with iMessage caused by a specific series of letters and we will fix it in an upcoming software update,” says a spokesperson for Apple.
The system crashes
When a message appears as a text message alert on the display of the phone system attempts to shorten it using the ellipsis.
But if they end up in the middle of a text, for example, Arabic or Chinese characters system crashes and reboots.
Some victims of an attack has not been able to access their saved messages, and it requires a little work to fix. But it must go through to enter the bildappen and send back a photo to the sender.
Large attack can come
However it requires a specific text line to succeed and the Guardian tested 50 different variations of a text before they managed to replicate the crash.
The bug disappears when you deactivate the SMS alerts on your phone or e-reader, before you had time to be affected. It is so far the only way to protect themselves against an attack.
Text one has so far been used to joke with people, but hackers have understood the possibility to exploit the bug to carry out large-scale attacks.
