Hip Arthroplasty or not hip replacement? A new method will make it easier for doctors and patients to decide whether it is appropriate having hip replacement surgery or not.
There is a researcher at the Sahlgrenska Academy in Gothenburg have developed a model for supporting the decision. It is based on assessments that orthopedic surgeons at a hospital in Boston made of 300 patients with hip problems.
“Our tests show that the decision support with high security can predict whether a patient will be recommended hip replacement surgery or not,” said Meredith Greene at the Sahlgrenska Academy in a press release.
The researchers also through survey responses from 36,000 hip replacement patients surveyed how they feel after an operation and among others concluded that highly educated people have a better chance to improve while patients on antidepressants as well those with problems in both hip joints have less chance.
