Streaming war continues: Google releases free version of its music service – IDG.se

“We believe this is a way that enables the service shown to many people,” said Elias Roman, Google product manager, in an interview.

In the same interview he also said that Google Play has millions of visitors every month, but not everyone is willing to pay for a subscription. By offering a free version, he hopes that more people feel inclined to pay for an updated version.

It’s tough at the top, and competition between streaming services is intensifying. Google will not say how many subscribers they have, more than the number doubled in 2014. However, Pandora, Spotify and Beats Music considerably more downloads to mobiles. Google Play is available for Android and iOS at the end of the week.
