Esrange: Risk that the Russian spacecraft does not burn up – New Technology

Progress would transport the equipment to the International Space Station, but mission control in Kazakhstan lost contact with the craft immediately after starting last Tuesday.

The European Space Agency has asked the Swedish Esrange if they can help to try to make contact with the craft.

- They went out and asked the organizations and companies they work with if someone could receive and transmit at the odd low-frequency VHF band. Since we have rocket and balloon activities at Esrange, we have such technical systems, says Lars Poromaa, director of technological development at Esrange.

Now wait Esrange more information about exactly what frequency signal is at, how it should be decoded and the craft’s estimated origin runway looks. Next comes the Esrange to make an assessment of its technical systems can handle the task.

– We need to get a formal request and the details of To accomplish the mission. We have people on standby now, we get information, we will go out and start working, says Lars Poromaa.

How do you see your opportunities to succeed in getting contact with the craft?

– It is difficult to say because the craft condition is unknown. It may happen that all the electrical systems have been wiped out, then there will be no signal. But if you can trace the signal and follow it, you can count on the track was the craft makes a reentry. There is a risk that everything does not have time to burn up, I guess that becomes mission, to identify where there may be an impact, says Lars Poromaa.

The signal is expected to remain at about 160 megahertz, which is a Russian default.

Why do that you could make contact with the vessel on the VHF band of Russians have not done it?

– You want enough more stations will be involved and look. The spacecraft has lost its course and if you are looking for in a large window maybe it is more likely to succeed if more facilities are looking for, says Lars Poromaa.

The bullet that always hits – New Technology

The US military research organization DARPA has long developed a system for controllably rifle ammunition called Extreme Accuracy tasked Ordnance, exacto.

Now there is a video on Youtube that is said to show how even an untrained shooter hits a moving target.

Det Most of the technology used is classified and the only DARPA reveals is that it is based on a controllable ball and an optical monitoring system in real time, detects the ball and the goal.

During his journey in the air can be when the bullet trajectory is adjusted for weather and other factors that can prevent a Lycksam hit, writing thereon in a pressmemmelande.

The ball used has the caliber .50, which is small for a controllable ball and now researchers expect to be able to develop the ammunition technology for all calibers.

Sweden attracts with skills – after all – New Technology

But in Sweden is not visible on the increase. The researchers showed Pontus Braunerhielm and Johan Eklund with figures from the IT, telecommunications and life science sectors in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet debate page on Sunday.

Between 2001 and 2011, the number of people employed in the three different sectors in Sweden decreased 30 to 50 percent. In other European countries the number of employees increased during the same period.

The scientists conclude that the Swedish leadership in technologically advanced production has become weaker. They are concerned that the Swedish competence level does not reach the top class anymore.

Last week I wrote here about Ny Teknik reports from Scania, where Sony, Ericsson, AstraZeneca, Gambro and Tetra Pak have gradually reduced their strengths . And there are no signs that any new giant would be interested in establishing themselves in the same region. Is it because excellence in Sweden is not sharp enough?

This week tells the reporter Eddie Pröckl the contrary. Volvo’s Chinese owner Geely has chosen Sweden to start a new development – China European Vehicle Technology, CEVT. The reason is that this is a vehicle expertise that is lacking in China.

The mission was initially to develop a common vehicle architecture for Volvo and Geely’s smaller cars. The solution was so helpful and working so appreciated that CEVT now construct a dozen complete car models to Geely.

Another reason to chose Geely Sweden are working with a flat organization, individual responsibility among employees engineers and the habit at solving problems in teams.

Over 1100 engineers working in the company, most of them are Swedish. Many come from Saab.

Another company that has captured the competent engineers from the automotive industry is the Norwegian consulting firm Aker Solutions which started in Gothenburg in 2011.

Engineering Competence can still give Sweden a competitive advantage.

New method for stroke treatment – challenge for the county councils – forskning.se

– The method has amazing effects. The patients’ chances of survival and maintaining quality of life increases significantly, so this is a paradigm shift in healthcare, says Nils Wahlgren, MD and professor at Karolinska Institutet.

There is always a rush at a stroke. Upon timely treatment, the parts of the brain where blood flow is hampered recover, but it is not always successful. At the so-called thrombolysis solve the blood clot with drugs, but with larger clots or when thrombolysis is appropriate for the patient does not treatment.

Further development of the former method
A few years ago a new method called thrombectomy. Then you go into the body by a catheter through the aorta up to the affected part of the brain. In the end set to begin a corkscrew-like device and having it tried to get hold of the plug by screwing through it, and then slowly pull it out.

Now, the instrument developed. Instead of corkscrew strapped a microscopic nets out at the blood clot. When it expands pressed the clot away while stuck in the net. Even when the network is precipitated blood may begin to flow past the plug and then the plug can be safely removed. The result is so good that several studies recently undertaken had to be interrupted. As it was considered unethical to continue treating patients who come in with strokes on the old way when the new gave such good results.

– This will change health care. We are now working on research to identify patients who can be helped with this technology. These are groups with significant blood clot, but where opportunities to fix the stroke before it went too far left, says Professor Wahlgren.

Equal treatment possible?
Since there is always a rush at a stroke raises method questions about how it is possible to offer equal care. Today the equipment of a modern thrombectomy not at all hospitals and it means that patients can be helped by a thrombectomy in many cases must be moved to a big city. Here comes the National Board work on guidelines for the care set.

– We are on the ball. Thrombectomy is part of the investigative work on guidelines for stroke that we will be finished in 2-3 years, says Sofia Orrskog, project manager at the National Board.

The National Board must map the studies are made and then set priorities between different actions before they can formulate recommendations. These recommendations will then form the basis for a common method for evaluating a patient.

– If it is so that there will be thrombectomy in all hospitals so it is important to have procedures for how to send those patients who do not live near the hospitals that perform abortions. There is no obvious answer to the question today, but this is something that must be discussed thoroughly in health care and that we will take up in our judgments, says Sofia Orrskog.

Police reports ISPs – Västerbotten Courier

The police have registered Tele2 and Telenor for not disclosing IP numbers associated with the investigation of serious crimes. The reason is that operators randomly clump together some customers over the same ip address, and that individual numbers when not stored, writes nyteknik.se.

The National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has not yet decided how they shall act on the notification.

– We have great respect for the work of the police but we can not provide the information today, and we can also note that we make different judgments about the right position. We therefore welcome this will now be examined, says Oliver Carrà, press manager at Tele2 to the newspaper.

The police want the four cases examined. It involves investigations into hacking, murder, receiving crimes and the purchase of sexual acts from children when IP addresses are not disclosed.

Murder can not be investigated because of shared IP addresses – New Technology

Police Authority has recently notified Tele2 and Telenor to the National Post and Telecom Agency, PTS. The reason is that the police asked the companies to disclose IP addresses that can reveal who sent or received messages on the Internet in connection with preliminary investigations into serious crimes.

But operators say they have been unable to develop the IP addresses because they are not stored in the systems.

The reason is that there is a shortage of IP addresses. Therefore lumps operators together some customers over the same IP address as a dynamic, random system called NAT, Network Address Translation.

The technique increasingly used by Internet service providers and means simply that different users of computers, tablets and mobiles have the same IP address when the connection to the Internet.

Police Authority now claims that the operators are obliged to store the individual IP addresses under the Electronic Communications Act, LEK. And they now want to PTS examines four cases.

Three tubes of IP addresses that you want to Tele2 leave out because they can importance in the investigation of who or what is behind hacking, murder and receiving offense.

– We have great respect for the work of the police but we can not provide the information today, and we can also note that we make different judgments about the right position – therefore we welcome this will now be examined, says Oliver Carrà, press manager at Tele2.

I another case police want to get an IP address from Telenor in connection with an investigation surrounding the purchase of sexual acts from children.

Men notified to the PTS claiming Telenor to their mobile customers surfing on a common IP numbers because of the shortage of IP numbers. The IP address uppgås be included in an IP range of “NAT addresses”.

Aaron Samuelsson, Press Officer at Telenor:

– Our systems are designed for a specification of requirements under the regulation on electronic communications and under do not need the port number is saved.

Can you help the police in any other way?

– We prefer a solution to this issue and the reasonable solution is when the new Internet Protocol, IPv6, has been fully implemented.

– Although we would save this type of data, it would mean huge amounts of data. And the police would go beyond the IP number also need to provide us with exact port number and the exact times when the port number used IP address, and our view is that it is missing today, he said.

Facebook and Google participating in the operation in Nepal – Today’s News

After the earthquake in Nepal have both Facebook and Google enabled services that help users to find loved ones. “Social networks have an increasingly important role in the rescue,” said Professor Per Gunningberg.

At least 3,700 people have died as a result of the great earthquake disaster in Nepal, according to Reuters. The material damage in the country is huge, electricity and communications come and go – and for many it is still difficult to get in touch with relatives and friends.

This Saturday announced Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg that the company’s service “Facebook Safety Check” enabled for Nepal. This means that all who are in any of the affected areas in Nepal, brings up a question if all is well. With a single click you can give a reassuring message to their friends and relatives.

Even individuals’ friends can mark a person as “safely” or “not in the disaster area.”

Google has activated a similar service for Nepal called “Google Person Finder” . This service was created after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, to help relatives to find credible information about loved ones.

Services welcomed of Per Gunningberg, professor of computer communication at Uppsala University.

– I think this may have very great significance. It builds so clear that there is some type of connectivity in the area where you are located. And it is such a devastating event such as the tsunami disaster in 2004, so it may be difficult or impossible to connect to a start. But in many cases there is a partial coverage retained, with mobile signals coming and going. After some days also tend to telephone companies and aid organizations get up temporary cell towers – and that is the sort of services are very important, says Per Gunningberg DN.

He emphasizes that organizations leading rescue operations in disaster areas may be better at use social networking as an information channel.

– We know that people seek out something that works quickly and that they are accustomed to using. Experience shows that, among other things, Twitter and Facebook are growing in importance – and that these social networks can play an astoundingly large role, both to collect and disseminate information in crisis situations. The challenge for aid organizations and rescue teams are finding ways to take advantage of and contribute to the flow of information, says Per Gunningberg.

A magical friend in the watch making all the DJs. Swedish Pacemaker makes super strong … – IDG.se

Ipad app has been Recommended for long. Now Pacemakers brand-new Apple Watch version number three on the list when Apple offers tips on apps bell owner simply must have – by giants like Twitter and the New York Times.

– The the insanely fun. It’s almost hard to put it into words. We think we have an extremely good product, and you end up right there if you have it, says Jonas Norberg, president of Pacemaker.

Pacemaker Apple Watch
Pacemakers Apple Watch.

The company came in limelight in 2008 when they released a portable DJ set. But then reality caught up by the iPhone was released and turned the hardware market on its head. Moreover changed music consumer behavior very quickly.

“Pacemakers had a hard to adapt,” the company writes on his website. But now came back. They released the hardware and put it all on apps. Ipad app has received much attention, but now something completely new at the time. Today, Apple Watch variant of Pacemaker debut in Apple’s App Store.

– Pacemakers have always been about democratizing the DJ. Watch the Apple app provides a little more party in your everyday life. Basically it is that we believe that there are many people out there who are tired of passively consume music. They want to get more involved in it and this is our response to it, says Jonas Norberg.

The app works with iTunes and Spotify. The user selects a playlist and app mixes “automagically” says Jonas Norberg. The clock is a DJ they call Mållgan, by Alfons Åberg’s invisible friend.

– The one-touch mixing magic. You simply click on the song you want to mix in, so we have a little DJ who sits inside the app and mixes for you.

To go from hardware to software has been a challenge. And it will take a while before Pacemaker becomes profitable, think Jonas Norberg. But the company has quickly gained a million dollars in investment from including Swedish venture capital company Spintop Ventures and PlusEight Equity Partners, founded by musicians Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva. The latter is Jonas Norberg noticeably proud of.

– They have really musical origins. They are from Windsor in Canada, across the river from Detroit. They tried to give out techno discs, but it is originally black music. No one wanted to publish some strange white guys’ music so they started their own label called PlusEight. They took their music to the UK where the rave scene ended up being the EDM. Now they are investors, he said.

But despite Pacemakers successes in Appstore so the competition is tough right amongst the DJ apps. There are many dj apps and an extremely high volume of 50-60 million downloads in total.

– The of course tough, but again it is the best product that wins, and I think we stand up very well. We focus on doing what we do best, and that’s the mix-experience. We want to get everyone in the world to create mixes, democratized DJing.
