The number of lions in Africa can be halved within the next 20 years, according to new study.
Researchers at Oxford University have collected surveys from fifty lion populations across the continent from the early nineties onwards, and then estimated the lions’ continued development.
Lions reduces quickly in all locations except in the southern countries Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa where the lion population is seen after extensive conservation efforts.
According to scientists, will this entail major changes in the ecosystems in the future because the lions play a key role as the apex predator in the food chain.
