– There are an estimated nine million glasses that are not used at the home of the Swedes. We collect them and distribute to people in need in Tanzania, says Claudia Nilsson, manager of the project “Giving sight” of the eyewear company Specsavers.
Similar fundraisers have been made previously by other eyewear companies and opticians. Now in October collected glasses set. In February, going a delegation of opticians, assistants and thousands of old byrålåds glasses to eastern Tanzania. Which tested the glasses to those who need to see, but who can not afford to visit an optician and buy new ones.
Sure, you can think about how spectacles, littering at home, and who once tried out and fitted to so carefully, can really be of use to someone else.
– If they do not fit quite as good as the ones they made they may still be better than no glasses at all. We have our optometrists in place trying to find the right. Maybe the person who receives them gets a good eye, anyway, she says.
According to the company survey, six out of ten Swedes one or more pairs of glasses that are not used in the drawer.
is the amount that will, explains Claudia Nilsson. If enough glasses collected so increases the chances that any of all 43 million Tanzanians can use them.
