Ikea is investing heavily in wireless charging – evertiq.se

The Swedish Ikea is perhaps not primarily known as an electronics company. Now is nonetheless an effort to include wireless charging in home decor.

Ikea has launched a series of home furnishing products with integrated wireless charging for smartphones. The new solution transforms bedside tables, lamps and desktop to wireless charging stations, writes Ikea.

The technology that enables wireless charging based on cooperation with the global Qi standard, which provides a third-party certification for wireless charging products. The technique works on devices that support Qi standard or entities that have a shell that supports the Qi standard. The new collection with the integrated technology is designed by the likes of IKEA designer David Wahl.

– We have created smart, wireless solutions where multiple functions can be used simultaneously. The unique integration of technology in home furnishing products enable our customers to recharge smart phones at the same time, for example, receive light from the lamp. Now we enable our customers to create a beautiful home without superfluous wires, says David Wahl, designer IKEA of Sweden.

Samsung Electronics has worked with furniture giant to enable this:

“Mobile devices have become an integral part of our lives – to easily connect wireless charging with IKEA furniture gives everyone the opportunity to more convenient and practical enjoy their smartphone experience,” says Jean-Daniel Ayme, Deputy Managing Director of European Telecommunication Operations at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung strives to deliver the best mobile experience for consumers, particularly in their own home or office, we have a long-term commitment to innovative charging solutions.”
