Not only the bridge at risk of bacterial contamination – Swedish Radio

Yesterday news broke down: Sundsvall Bridge is about to rust the iron-eating bacteria Gallionella. But there may be more in the bay which may be subject to attack.

– The other owners of the establishments around here will get access to our investigation, says Magnus Lundberg, project manager for the E4 Sundsvall.

Iron can also be found in the docks, other foundations and even ships. Be the bacteria come from we do not know yet – but a suspect source is wastewater.

– We’ll probably consult with my Sweden Water in the matter as well, says Magnus Lundberg.

The surprise of the Swedish Transport Administration of bacterial attack is great.

– This is totally unexpected, it’s nothing that any of us have expected that it could be done, says Magnus Lundberg.
