New malware replaces Chrome browser – Swedish Dagbladet

Like a lot other malware, the goal is to follow the user to the Internet and allow advertisers to send targeted advertising. But the method is radically different from previous malware. Efast not trying to “hijack” the user’s browser without replacing it instead altogether.

In a way, it is all a small victory for Chrome, says security expert Swift on Security. It is proof that Google now made it so difficult to infect Chrome via plug-ins that it has become easier for attackers to replace the entire software.

According PCrisk hiding the fake version of Chrome in the installation files from shady sources on the web and is easy to uninstall if you accidentally install it, writes The Verge.
