– This is good for everyone: good for business, good for consumers, good for Europe’s digital economy, claims, Andrus Ansip, EU Commissioner for the Digital Single Market, on a press conference in Brussels today’s proposal is presented.

– This is the step that will really make a difference for 500 million Europeans, think Ansip.

This last proposal EU Commission receives many copyright owners to rage.

The European Commission aims to make Europe a common digital market where it will be easier to e-shop where citizens can use their digital services anywhere, in whichever EU country they are in.

Nearly half of all Swedish households subscribing today to a streaming service such as Netflix, Viaplay or HBO. If the Commission’s proposal be implemented, they can be used both on a Greek beach or in the hotel room in London.

“The market for legal materials have enormous potential, and it is a market that knows no borders. The problem is that the EU: States copyright law basically has not changed at all since it was first drawn up 15 years ago, when the digital revolution had just begun, “writes EU Commissioners, Andrus Ansip, and Günther Oettinger, in an opinion piece Wednesday published in several newspapers.

The problem is, however, borders is crucial for many companies that sell the broadcasting rights of sports and movies, and the protests are the least noisy.

“When you change the conditions for us resell rights, so change our results. When we negotiate with broadcasters, it is about exclusive rights. If you say that there will be complete exclusivity, so affected the negotiations, “said Mathieu Moreuil from the English football league the Premier League for the online magazine Politico .

The Commission also proposes new guidelines for simpler e-commerce across borders and strengthened consumer protection. It will also be tougher stance against piracy.

“The copyright must be enforced with vigor if we are to eradicate the piracy on a commercial scale that is rampant in the EU today, and depletes our creative industries,” said Ansip and Oettinger .
