Boom for Swedish apples – Aftonbladet

Malmo. There is strong demand for Swedish fruit, reports the Farmers’ National Federation (LRF), which in its new report shows that the volume of Swedish grown apples have doubled since 1994, the report estimated last year’s production of Swedish apples to 1,386 acres, yielding an estimated value of 254 million kronor.

The new planting of apple trees also increased significantly during 2012 and 2013 the newly planted trees are expected in early 2020 to contribute an apple harvest of more than 5 000 tonnes.

According to LRF in Sweden there is an opportunity to grow apples in many parts of the country – and for us to grow unique varieties. Apple varieties Aroma and Ingrid Marie and Frida can be stored longer, and may even extend the season for the Swedish apples out there in country stores.
