Increased demand for Swedish grown apples – Swedish Radio

According to the Farmers’ Association, LRF, the volume of Swedish grown apples doubled since 1994 But the fruit growers John Orelind think it is more of a recovery.

– When we were in Europe we had a grubbing which took away a lot of the orchard at the time. It was expected that there would be large amounts of cheap apples down from the EU, so I think the amount was halved by the Swedish fruit we the moment.

However, John Orelind, as LRF, marked by increased demand in the case of Swedish apples in store. And this has allowed more investment in recent years.

– There shall we say, quite well actually.

According to LRF increased new planting of apple trees significantly during 2012 and 2013 in early 2020 these trees are expected to contribute with a harvest of more than 5,000 tons of apples.

– There will be an ongoing replanting. If then the area will be expanded in the future is hard to say if. I think we have reached a level where we might want to calm down a bit and see what happens.
