Some 50 people have complained that Google refused to delete the links on them. Hung out Swedish police and the much spoken-employed should be among the complainants. Now begins Datainspektionen an examination of how Google handles “right to be forgotten”.

A year ago, ruled the EU Court the so-called “right to be forgotten”, a rule that says Google must remove search results linked to a person when he or she requires. Among other things, links to news articles about the criminals have been removed at the offender’s own request.

In Sweden alone 7,500 such claims received since the rule came into force. Globally, no less than 260,000 requirement to destroy nearly one million URLs from search results. Four out of ten URLs will be removed.

However, in some cases, Google says no, for example, when sökjätten believes that the information is of such public interest that the link will remain. There are such cases, the Data Inspection Board will now review, in order to establish whether Google has handled claims properly.

– We have received 50 complaints and selected 13 pieces for examination, said Martin Brinnen, lawyer the Data Inspection Board.

Among those who have complained are traders who have been negatively publicized. Google will also have refused to remove links to information about the relatives of a police officer, according to the Swedish Data Inspection Board.

The results of such persons may be subject to the ECJ broad definition of public figures. Such deemed to accept a higher degree of exposure in the search results.

– We have not taken a position on how to deal with the complaints. It is possible that we will say that Google has done right, says Martin Brinnen.

The Data Inspection Board shall also examine how Google receives requests. Today, those who want to complain to fill in a web form, and Data Inspection Board shall also consider whether the company should be forced to accept demands through such paper letter and whether it is possible already today.

The right to be forgotten principle means only that some Google search results are removed when searching for a specific name. A search for other concepts can make the same URL appears. Nor affected what is published on the linked site, because only the search engines are affected by the law.

– We will implement the right to be forgotten in a responsible and thoughtful way and looks forward to responding to the Data Inspection Affairs, says Gustaf Brusewitz, communications manager at Google in Sweden.
