Expert: Throw away your computer, buy a flat – Helsingborgs Dagblad

Why does the only increase – consumers have not learned anything from all the warnings?

– I wish I could say that people become smarter . . . But I’m pretty tired of it always, the user gets the blame when something happens, says Mikko Hypponen, head of research at Finnish data security company F-Secure, after speaking at an IT security fair in Stockholm.

Talking about stupid users click on links they should not click, open e-mail attachments from unknown senders or use the same password all the time is to make it easy for themselves, says Mikko Hyppönen.

– We should not focus so much on user errors since people will always make mistakes online. We as a manufacturer of security software, operating systems and broadband operators need to take greater responsibility. In this context, one can also point out that many of today’s connected gadgets, phones and tablets, is relatively safe compared to computers.

It depends on to there are more restrictions on what software gets access to the mobile devices. Especially for Apple products. But even Google improves security in Android, says Hyppönen.

– When people ask me if they should upgrade their old computer with a new operating system I always answer “discard it and buy a tablet.” The surfing the web, checking news and weather, and pay their bills. It is much safer to do it with a tablet than a computer.
