Four out of five Swedes use the Internet daily – Swedish Radio

Internet Foundation in Sweden presented his annual report on the Swedes’ access to and use of the Internet.

The rise of smart mobiles and tablets are slowing but has not yet stopped, says Pamela Davidsson, Head of Statistics on the Internet Foundation in Sweden (IIS).

– There are many who use tablets, there are many who use mobile phones, but it is not such a big increase as before. However, we see that there is an increase among those who are older. Those who are over 65, there are more people start using mobile phones, says Pamela Davidsson.

Yes, pensioners have jumped on the bandwagon and started using smartphone and tablet to a larger extent. Almost half of those in the age group 66-75 years now have a smartphone, and about a third have a tablet, either of which is an increase of 10 percentage points since last year.

This is just one of elements in the large report Swedes and the Internet 2015 Internet Foundation in Sweden (IIS) today. As a basis for the report, 3,000 people from 12 years upwards answered questions on access to and use of the Internet and technology, extensive phone interviews.

The report shows that Swedes spend much time surfing the internet, an average of three hours a day. The proportion who have access to the Internet has increased compared to last year and ends on 93 percent.

The use of social media continues to grow, and almost 70 percent of Internet users are using Facebook and almost half do it every day. But there is also a movement of social networks, where especially the younger ones in relation to other social media.

A novelty in this year’s report is the social media service snapchat used by 21 percent of Internet users in total, but above all, is huge among the young. Most frequent users of snapchat is 12-15 year old girls, where as many as three out of four use it daily.

– The change is very much about the movement. In the younger ages, from Facebook to snapchat, but also Instagram, the largest social media for the youngest. It is also interesting that both snapchat, Twitter and LinkedIn are the same if you look at the total figure. Which also says something outside that we hajpar not least Twitter in the media very much, and perhaps not at all LinkedIn and Instagram in the same way, says Emanuel Charles Stone who is a journalist and consultant in digital media.

He also thinks it is interesting to see how our habits on social media is changing, we post and publish ourselves less and less today, and instead surfing and to network more.

– Most people use social media more as a channel of information and comment and like, but are not themselves producers. You can log in and expect that it will be maintained for a while, and updated. Or that the news should reach me through my feeds on sites such as Facebook or Twitter, says Emanuel Charles Stone.

The illegal file sharing continues to decline, while more and more streaming video via the internet. The proportion who subscribe to the music and film are also higher among file-sharers than among others.

One thing that surprises statistics manager Pamela Davidsson on IIS little is that those who say they use the internet to purchase goods and services declines. 79 percent of Internet users have responded that they do it at some point, while last year it was 85 percent.

Meanwhile, sales in e-commerce increased, and Pamela Davidsson speculate about the outcome of the report can be about Internet is now so obvious that it interpreted the question a little differently.

– The question has been the same since 2000, but it may be that they do not reflect on what it is doing. The Internet has become like water, you do not think that is something over the internet, says Pamela Davidsson on the Internet Foundation in Sweden.
