Google is preparing for the attacks from sharks – Expressen

Google renewed effort against attacks, but by a smaller expected impact.

The company is now strengthening its submarine cables in the Pacific Ocean – to protect them from attacks by sharks, writes Network World.

At an event in Boston last week told the product manager Dan Belcher that Google is now focusing more on protecting their submarine in the Pacific Ocean, writes Network World.

Google will to reinforce parts of its undersea cables with a Kevlar-like material to avoid attacks by sharks.

During the event showed Balcher video where a shark biting a cable, writes The Guardian. Why the Sharks are drawn to the cables is unclear, but one theory is that they are attracted by the magnetic fields that cables emit – and mistaken them for a prey. Older copper cables had not this problem.

The existing fiber cables can be said to be the Internet’s “backbone”. The cables are sensitive, but transports data across several continents at speeds of up one gigabyte per second – about one hundred times faster than copper cables, according to The Guardian.
