Arrest picture gave the family 80 000 Dollar – Aftonbladet

An anonymous pen salesman in Beirut was one of the week’s biggest buzz on social media.

The Icelandic activist Gissur Simon Arson saw the picture which was a refugee from Syria to become known throughout the world.

With her daughter sleeping in arms, he goes around trying to sell their pens.

– It is a very emotional picture. You can see in his face and how he keeps pens that it is the only thing he has in this world, says Simon Arson CNN.



Fled War, Syria

Gissur Simon Arson tweeted the picture, which one does not know who took to his 6,000 followers and received immediate response from people who wanted to help the family. He started a collection – and after 24 hours he had received 80,000 dollars from thousands of people all over the world.

With the help of social media and activists, he managed to find the family two days later.

It turned out that pen salesman named Abdul. He fled the war Syria together with her daughter Reem, 4, and son Abdelillah, 9, three years ago.

– When he heard about the collection, he broke down and started crying, saying Gissur Simon Arson CNN.

The money will help children go to school

Abdul says he’ll use the money for children’s education and to help other refugees.

– He was so grateful. He thanked once again for everyone’s generosity, says Gissur Simon Arson.
