Urgent need for more apartments for asylum seekers – Swedish YLE

The Red Cross reception center for asylum seekers in Kristinestad rent eight flats in Siipyy. From mid-September to rent 30 rooms in the old Soff’s boarding school in Yttermark in Närpes.

There is a lot of pressure on the reception centers for asylum seekers says Annica Knight, director of Kristinestads reception center for asylum seekers. All centers in Southern Ostrobothnia is full.

– It’s just taking one day at a time. There will be new applicants all the time and we have brought in extra staff. How many people have never before been on the run in the world, says Knight.

Most asylum seekers come from Iraq, Syria, Somalia and other African countries. Reception Centre has 300 seats divided between Kaskinen, Kristiinankaupunki and Närpes.

Annica Knight says that new reception centers will be based around the country. Investments are still unclear.
