Police reports ISPs – Västerbotten Courier

The police have registered Tele2 and Telenor for not disclosing IP numbers associated with the investigation of serious crimes. The reason is that operators randomly clump together some customers over the same ip address, and that individual numbers when not stored, writes nyteknik.se.

The National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has not yet decided how they shall act on the notification.

– We have great respect for the work of the police but we can not provide the information today, and we can also note that we make different judgments about the right position. We therefore welcome this will now be examined, says Oliver Carrà, press manager at Tele2 to the newspaper.

The police want the four cases examined. It involves investigations into hacking, murder, receiving crimes and the purchase of sexual acts from children when IP addresses are not disclosed.
