Indian IT company pulls out of Facebook’s projects – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

The reason for the withdrawal is reported to be concerned that the activities threaten the principle of net neutrality, a principle which is to all the sites and apps should be equally available. Among those who chose to step aside is travel website Cleartrip.com and media giant Times Group.

Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg chose to defend the purpose of Internet.org by pointing out that the service order is to expand the Internet to emerging countries. This will come in the form of a sample consisting of apps and websites that are free for consumers but where the content providers shall bear the costs levied by telecom companies.

Many companies fear, however, that just the latter, it distorts market and make it harder for small-cap companies to get their products to the public.

Internet.org available today, , excluding India, available in six emerging countries including the Philippines, Ghana and Colombia.
