Passive smoking can provide children with ADHD – Helsingborgs Dagblad

The parents evaluate their children’s mental health. Therefore, the researchers also wary of claiming a proven link – because the children were not investigated by psychologists. According parents had about eight percent of children of different psychological problems.

Children who were in a smoky atmosphere less than an hour per day were hit with double the probability of ADHD than children who were not exposed to smoke, even after the researchers took into account family health, socio-economic factors and family structure. The risk for children who were in a smoky home over an hour a day, three times as large.

“The connection was mostly on how smoking affected lack of attention and hyperactivity disorders,” the researchers write.

is backed by Lucy Popva at the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education at the University of California, who argue that research on smoking and mental health is only in its infancy.

– The study contributes to the growing proof mass that passive smoking can be a cause of cognitive and behavioral problems in children, she said.
