Google confirms large security holes – over 80 percent of all Android … – PC for All

A bug that previously existed in version 3.6 of the Linux operating system, which made the attacks via the user’s Internet connections have unfortunately found to Android. It notifies the security firm Lookout discovered exactly the same bug in Android 4.4 Kitkat. The bug is also expected to be available in later versions of Kitkat – which means that around 80 percent of all Android devices can be vulnerable to such an attack.

But there are both good and bad news. The bad is that the vulnerability allows eavesdropping and tampering without noticeable interference in the network. An attack of that type fooling the user that the information is transmitted directly, but may in fact contain different types of manipulations – such as malicious software.

The good news is that the vulnerability is not easy to perform. It would take around a minute to attack a single user, which is not very convenient for hackers any attacks a larger user group. This attacktyp other words, more suitable if you’re looking to hack a specific person.

Google has announced that the company’s engineers are well aware of the security hole, and that they “take appropriate security measures.” The bug is, after all, already patched in later versions of Linux and Android patch is not likely to linger too long.
