Programmed wall breaks down chemicals in the air – New Technology

GRAPHICS. A wall of plants, microbes and artificial intelligence. It is a new recipe that will provide better indoor air.

In the Finnish town of Jyvaskyla had Aki Soudunsaari come to a realization: Nature is smarter than an engineer when it comes to creating good air.

He therefore began with Niko Järvinen sketch on a green piece of furniture where air-purifying plants would be kept alive with the help of artificial intelligence and remote-controlled irrigation.

the result is an intelligent green wall.

– we have examined over 60 different kinds of plants and so we have programmed a lot. It has not been easy. In 2011, we killed thousands of seedlings during the fitting, says Aki Soudunsaari who founded the company Naturvention.

The company has patented technology in which indoor air is sucked in through the root system where microbes break down harmful chemicals. The purified air is pumped by fans. As the best selling point of the company states that a 60 centimeter wide module, which is standard wall, cleans the air as much as 6300 plants.

– It is. You notice the difference when you come into a room where our wall there – the air is fresher and better, says Aki Soudunsaari.

Chairman Christian Aspegren says that it is difficult to measure the total amount of chemicals in the air, but you must measure them one by one.

– National Technical Research Centre of Finland has shown that all the chemicals that examined the broken down in our system. Therefore, we conclude that the overall chemical load drops, he said.

The manufacture of the finished product is made by hand in a small factory in Finland. It has the capacity for 5-10 walls per day, but it will be expanded with the help of new risk capital.

In the spring the Finnish company opened an office in Stockholm. Chairman Christian Aspegren directing the establishment.

– One of the next steps will be to improve the design. Swedish customers give feedback, it is not enough that the wall should be clean air. They want it also to fit in with their style, he says.

– why we launch later in the autumn new products that can be fully customized to the customers’ design requirements.

One of the first customers is Radisson Blu Waterfront in Stockholm. They have two walls, one of them in a conference room and an office.

– In the house we have a sophisticated ventilation system that automatically adjusts the amount of carbon dioxide in the air so it is not affected by the plant wall. But we have noticed that the air is different and a little healthier, says manager Sam Holmberg.
