Airbus and Siemens is investing in an electric, – New Technology

Airbus and Siemens to Collaborate on the development of electrically powered aircraft. In 2030, a hybrid-driven aircraft for 100 passengers to be ready.

Flight manufacturer Airbus and industrial company Siemens have already worked together in smaller elflygprojekt, where for example the small battery-powered plane E-Fan made a acclaimed flight across the English channel last year.

Now the two companies have put together a development group with 200 employees to produce the hybrid operation and pure electric passenger aircraft. 2020, to be clear about which drives are best suited, 2030, a hybrid aircraft for up to 100 passengers to be ready.

With the European emissions target to reduce CO2 emissions by 75 percent by 2050, compared with emissions in 2000, is designed to develop prototypes of drives from a few hundred kilowatts up to ten megawatts or more. They are intended for aircraft for 100 passengers for local flight, medium-haul flights, helicopters and unmanned aircraft.
