Geely launches budget brand with Volvo technology – Aftonbladet

A new brand based on the Volvo platform.

Reuters reports that Geely Group will launch an entirely new brand of car.

The idea is to it will be a cheaper alternative to the Volvo in the West.

Volvo has long aimed to work their way up the premium ladder, and with their latest launches are the ambitions more clearly.

Volvo boss Hakan Samuelsson has repeatedly said that with the new S90 is the letter of intent is not only clear, it is the car that makes you now solved admission ticket in the premium league.

Known internally “L”

The aim of Geely is to have a the brand with cars to be able to operate both in the West and in China.

Exciting might seem, and perhaps something that is needed now that Volvo is increasingly focused on more affluent buyers. But China is not overly impressed by Geely’s move, rather the opposite.

– The last thing the Chinese automotive world needs is a new brand. Rather, the elimination of the brands to be the way forward, says James Chao, Asia manager for the consulting firm IHS Automotive Reuters.
