Research on game damage may Millions – ATL

Deer and especially wild boars has recently become a regular feature in the south of Sweden and thus the damage to both crops and forest. When the Environmental Protection Agency now distribute support from the Wildlife Protection Fund include it in the appropriations.

Henrik Andren at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in total SEK 2.7 million for the three years studying how damage to agricultural crops caused by wild boars can reduced by preventive measures such as electric fences and feeding.

at the same time awarded Anders Jarnemo at Halmstad University, 1.1 million for studies on chronic skadeffekt deer on the forest. The motivation reads: “The project will examine the relationship between chronic deer give birth and increased bark peeling, such as studies of how canola intake affects the bark peeling of spruce.”

The money from the Wildlife Protection Fund comes from the hunting fee they Swedish hunters annually pay into.
