So ends the amazing tale Mojang – Swedish Dagbladet

With the deal leaves the three founders of the company for new adventures. So ends the perhaps most amazing Cinderella story that the corporate world has seen.

Markus “Notch” Persson was interested in computer games game developers at King but liked better to sit in my apartment in Kärrtorp and create their own games. One of them was Minecraft, which was not much more than a shell when he put it out for sale in autumn 2009 Suddenly took the sales momentum and he took the opportunity to make a reality of his great dream and resigned to found along with Mojang two friends. Since then the game has become one of the largest gaming successes ever, with dedicated fans all over the world.

But the path was is not completely straight. It is the never.

Markus Persson handed the development of Minecraft to Jens Bergsten in 2011 to embark on new projects. So far, he has not released anything, and that of many coveted space game 0x10c lies mothballed.

For a long time the rights to Minecraft in Markus Persson’s own company, with after castling last spring released also co-founders in the heat, in what is already seen as a very generous move because Mojang made billions in profits. Today Markus Persson owns 71 percent of shares, James Porsér 21 percent and CEO Carl Manneh 8 percent.

When the deal with the Microsoft ends are all billionaires. End of story.

But, no story is complete without a darker bottom and in a post on his blog, Markus Persson gives a glimpse of what lies behind the deal. “I’m not a contractor. I’m not a CEO. I’m a nerdy programmer who likes to have opinions on Twitter. “He writes that he does play because it’s fun, not because they are going to be successes or change the world:” I do not want to be a symbol, in charge of something big that I do not understand and I do not want to work with, but do not want to let go. [...] If I ever accidentally do something that seems to take off, I’ll probably abandon it immediately. “

When he started Mojang was thought that Minecraft might work in a more year, maybe two at most. Then it would be time for the next game, time to get your teeth into a new fun project. But really it did not work. Minecraft Mojang continued to grow and began to focus on how best to manage one of the biggest games to make sure it lasts another ten years. There’s a difference, especially for someone who does not see himself as an entrepreneur, who did not look for that success and that perhaps would have preferred to develop games with his friends.

There are not many companies that have the resources to buy Minecraft and push it further. Microsoft was also among the first big companies to discover the game and they put a lot of energy to convince Mojang about collaboration and getting the game on the console, the Xbox 360.

In its press release writes Micrsoft that they will continue the development of Minecraft to platforms that compete with the company’s own – which may sound strange to those who only had sporadic eye on Microsoft in recent years, but which is in line with Microsoft during Satya Nadella – the company has, for example, made office suite Office available on Apple’s iPad.

Most likely, however, is not likely to take some very long before Minecraft shows up to the company’s mobile phones. It is already one of the best selling for both Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.
