Swedish biobatteri match lithium cell – New Technology

There are scientists at the Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University have developed a new battery. It is based on recycling and biological material.

It is possible therefore to manufacture new batteries scrapped. Lithium is extracted from an old battery can be used in a new biomaterial with additives of animal feed plant alfalfa and pine resin.

The newly manufactured battery delivers 99 percent of the amount of energy compared with the end of life.

– By using organic materials from renewable sources, several of the problems that could be solved occur with a very large increase in the use of lithium batteries, says Daniel Brandell, associate professor at the department of chemistry and one of the researchers in the project, in a press release.

– Above all, it is a significant step forward that lithium can greatly recovered easily and environmentally from these batteries. The solutions are also cost effective.

The research team also included Professor Kristina Edström and researcher Steven Renault.

Studien presented shortly in the journal Chem Sus Chem.
