State artistic contributions are examined – forskning.se

Projects grant with its administrative framework is in the intersection of art and politics fields. The board of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, which is an independent decision making body within the Arts, are representatives of the art world designated by the government for a limited time.

During the 1970s and 80s reflected in so well boards in approved projects how art was strongly influenced by gender ideals in politics and the trade union movement strong influence on the labor market. The new contribution added not only in order to create a broader, and in artist organizations’ eyes, more equitable and fair distribution, but did in fact also a paradigm shift, and a shift in power, what was the very principle of the division.

Previously, a selected group of academy members had the power to identify individual artists as particularly deserving. Project grant means the exact opposite. It decided the representatives of the country’s artists’ organizations and the process of application documents were made transparent and illustrate: the grant was given for the costly project, it was neither a benevolent alms or a symbolic hall stamping.

Changes in the art world’s inner structure after the postmodern shift in the 1980s eroded the previous artist union board’s legitimacy. A board of artists who occupied top positions in the art world, many with roots in the country’s art colleges, could be selected by the artist organizations nomination rights to the Visual Arts Board of the Fund has been removed.

The thesis shows that the government cultural policy objectives, to “countering the negative effects in the cultural” and “enable artistic and cultural renewal” has come to be understood in accordance with art the changing perception of what a non-commercial art is.

The framework for the contribution has not changed since 1976, but a conceptual and process emphasized art and work concepts together with the government and arts colleges focus on artistic research has changed our understanding of what a project is.
