The recent Tesla’s autopilot received criticism from several quarters. After an accident in Germany revealed the authorities, serious shortcomings in the system – and, in a subsequent report called for a ban on running with the autopilot on the German roads.

In California, the authorities have turned against that Tesla uses the term "autopilot" on the technology that the state considers is an online help system. Now Tesla has revealed the news that Elon Musk previously flagged – and teknikuppgraderingen comes in the nick of time.

"From today, have all of the Tesla vehicles, which are produced in our factory, including Model 3 – the hardware that is required to be completely self-driven, with a level of security far higher than what a human driver is capable of," writes Tesla.

Eight cameras

the System is partly based on eight cameras which give 360 degree view, up to 250 metres away. They are supplemented by twelve super-responsive detectors that can detect both soft and hard objects at close to double the gap compared with the cameras. A forward-looking radar overlap with the other systems. It can see through heavy rain, fog, dust – and according to Tesla, can the radar see through the vehicle ahead. In order to process the large quantity of information, the computer has on board, a capacity that is 40 times larger than in the previous generation.

Will lack the essential safety systems

A small fly in the ointment is that Tesla believe that they have to test the technology further, "in order to calibrate the system". In the meantime, they do this will the cars with the new system, lack the properties that are in the last generation autopilot. Tesla lists the systems for autobroms, kollisionsvarning, filövervakning, and "active cruise control". Tesla promises that the features will be activated over the net, as soon as they are tested. The question is what are the risks this means for all drivers who are accustomed to get the help of the security systems that today are standard in many cars?
