Apple builds secret teams in virtual reality – Dagens Industri

Technology giant Apple has put together a secret team to take up the fight with the Facebook Oculus Rift and the other contenders in virtual reality.

Virtual Reality is one of the most hyped technology areas for 2016. We are now focusing even Apple to get their piece of the pie. According to the Financial Times, the company has put together a secret team working with virtual reality and augmented reality, and to be building prototypes which in the future may go up against Faceboooks Oculus Rift, or Microsoft Hololens.

The secret unit includes hundreds of employees added through carefully executed acquisitions and that it handpicked employees from Microsoft and camera starting lineup Lytro, according to the business magazine’s sources.

The most recent acquisition in the area were Flyby Media specializing in the field of augmented reality. Flyby has previously worked for example with Google.
Apple should be according to the Financial Times, have worked on a prototype headsets for several months.

Apple has, for example, picked up Doug Bowman, who is a leading researcher in the VR area. Now is not Apple the only company to take an interest in precisely VR and augmented reality. Major players like Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Samsung are on the same track.
