Apple to open store in central Stockholm – 99mac

Apple has agreed with the City of Stockholm to open a Swedish flagship store at the Royal Garden. Everything will be completed within two years.

it has for several years been circulating rumors that Apple plans its first real Stockholm store, but so far there has not been any of that. Now, however, the store in Täby Centrum be joined by a new flagship store inside duties, reports the Express. According to the newspaper, Apple is in agreement with the City of Stockholm where the store will end up, namely on Harbour Street just off the Royal Garden.

The site is today the restaurant TGI Fridays, in a building that Apple reportedly will tear to make way for the store to get a facade of glass. It allows passersby to be able to see through the shop in the King’s Garden, and to do the Apple store to an attraction in itself. The new building’s design is developed together with the architectural firm of Forster and Partners.

The store will also have outdoor areas with cafe tables, and give a sense of amphitheater around Kungsträdgårdens fountain. Angela Ahrendts, head of Apple’s retail stores, said to have been personally involved in negotiations with local politicians in Stockholm. In a statement to Expressen, she says:

– Stockholm is an amazing city of innovation and know a great honor to receive ability to contribute to society there.

It is not clear when the new store can begin construction, but Apple’s plan is that everything will be finished within two years. As is standard for Apple’s retail stores will also be powered entirely by renewable energy. Apple has in many other cities open their shops in key locations at famous landmarks. In New York, they have a store in Grand Central Station, and in Paris at the National Museum, the Louvre.

Apple will, from next weekend to present the project officially with an exhibition at Kulturhuset, which will last until March 5. Stockholm City Finance Commissioner Karin Wanngård (S) state to Expressen that she is happy that Apple wants to establish in the city:

– There demonstrates our attractiveness to global players want to be associated with Stockholm.
